Case Study X
X was a member of a drug dealing gang operating out of Tower Hamlets. All the gang members are now behind bars.
X received support to improve his English and Maths grades which motivated him to test out his new skills.
“Whilst in prison, I realised that a life of crime wasn’t worth your freedom. Being locked up was the worst experience in my life and no amount of money could make up for even a day without your freedom.
As soon as I came out of prison I found a road to work flyer come through the post which offered just what I was looking for. I was uncertain if they could help me as I had criminal convictions and had just come out of prison but I thought I’d try my luck and pay them a visit since they were just on my doorstep.
My road 2 work adviser was very friendly & helpful. He helped me improve my cv, trained me up on how to job search and within a matter of weeks got me an interview.
I was nervous about the interview as I had never done one before but with my Road 2 Work adviser, I practiced answering all the questions that I might get asked.
After several sessions of practice I was less nervous, I went to the interview and to my surprise I was offered the job.
I work part time for a retail chain now and my adviser is helping me get back into education so that I can work towards my long-term career goal.
I want to work in the construction sector and I’m positive I can get there. I feel happy now that I’m doing the right things”
